The Indonesian Navy adopted the theme of “Partnership To Recover and To Rise Stronger" for this year's MNEK and managed to attract 36 countries to participate in the exercise.
Secretary of the province's Dekranasda Adel in Makassar, Tuesday, stated that the council is featuring a plethora of crafts from districts and cities across the province, such as stap konjo, which is palm fiber webbing, silk sheath, and also crafts made from water hyacinth.
"We also feature rattan webbing, a number of accessories and bags with South Sulawesi typical motifs, and woven fabric from Toraja," Adel remarked.
At the exhibition during the 2023 MNEK, the council is targeting to introduce several of the province's typical crafts that are being pushed for development by the council chairperson, Naoemi Octarina.
"Our target is to make more people aware of these crafts in addition to the fact that this exhibition is visited by many foreign visitors. Hopefully, South Sulawesi's craft products will be more widely known at the international level," the secretary affirmed.
MNEK is a non-war exercise that prioritizes regional maritime cooperation, disaster management, and humanitarian operations in the hopes of intensifying cooperation between the Indonesian Navy and its counterparts from friendly countries.
Earlier, South Sulawesi Governor Andi Sudirman Sulaiman had accompanied Indonesian Defense Forces Commander Admiral Yudo Margono as he inaugurated the 4th edition of MNEK at the Soekarno Hatta Port, Makassar, Monday (June 5).
