The attempt aims to ensure that the mothers and infants are in good health after delivery
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the Health Ministry’s Communication and Public Service Bureau, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, stated that the Health Bill brings attention to the health of prospective mothers since before the pregnancy stage.

"Article 46 of the Problem Inventory List (DIM) of the Health Bill strives for (prioritizing) maternal health (during pregnancy), so that they can give birth to healthy, intelligent, and quality children, in addition to the attempt being able to reduce maternal mortality," she stated here on Tuesday.

The attempts to maintain maternal health, as referred to by Paragraph 1 of the bill, will be made before pregnancy, during pregnancy, during childbirth, and after delivery.

The Health Ministry recorded that an average of 300 babies passed away in every 100 thousand births. In addition, some 11 babies until 28 days since delivery died in every one thousand births.

"Hence, health services provided before pregnancy aim to prepare women to undergo a healthy and safe pregnancy and delivery as well as to have a healthy baby," the official remarked.

She noted that the services comprise immunization for the bride and groom as well as provision of blood-booster tablets for women in their reproductive ages.

Meanwhile, health services during pregnancy are provided at health facilities through antenatal care that should be conducted at least six times to give comprehensive and quality services.

"Delivery services should be carried out at health facilities that have the resources and ability to detect as soon as possible and provide early treatment for complications that may arise," Tarmizi noted.

She remarked that the Health Bill also encourages the implementation of comprehensive post-delivery services during critical periods, both for mothers and their babies, through four postpartum visits and three neonatal visits.

"The attempt aims to ensure that the mothers and infants are in good health after delivery," she added.

Earlier, the bureau head noted that some 85 percent of the policies included in the bill discussed the improvement of national health services.
