Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), through the Directorate General of Cipta Karya, has continued the community-based water supply and sanitation program (Pamsimas) by utilizing the state budget (APBN).

"In our opinion, Pamsimas has enormous benefits for people who are in rural areas, so we have continued (Pamsimas) using state budget funds because this really helps the community," the Director General of Cipta Karya Diana Kusumastuti said at the 2023 Indonesia Water & Wastewater Expo & Forum (IWWEF) in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Kusumastuti said that the Pamsimas program was conducted using assistance from the World Bank through community empowerment, but now the assistance has ended.

The community has an important role in the Pamsimas program: it carries out the planning up to the development stage, and then, it shares in the management, which is carried out by community members themselves.

Thus, the sustainability or sustainability of the water in the area is maintained because it is a community need.

Through the program, areas that previously had no water can get water directly so it automatically becomes an advantage for the community.

Earlier, PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said that currently, there are around 37 thousand Pamsimas units that have served 25.9 million people.

The program’s activities are carried out entirely by the community, starting from the planning and implementation, up to the management of constructed facilities by prioritizing local wisdom in each region.

Pamsimas is a program that has militancy. It mainly targets areas that do not have water, so if they are placed in areas where there is a lot of water, they are not on target. The task of the assistants is to direct the target.

This is in pursuance of the sixth sustainable development goal, which is ensuring the availability and management of safe and affordable drinking water for all up to 2030.
