Jakarta (ANTARA) - The 2023 National Family Day to be commemorated on June 29 is a momentum to improve digital literacy of families, according to an official from the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection.

The ministry's Deputy for Special Protection for Children Nahar stated on Wednesday that adequate understanding and knowledge of digital technology could prevent children and families from online-based violence or gender discrimination in social media.

Nahar made the statement after the launch event of the Women and Children's Channel in the RRI Play Go application in Jakarta.

Through this understanding, families can take action against problems faced by children, for instance, by reporting to authorities or through the SAPA 129 service in the event of violence cases.

According to Nahar, good digital literacy can prevent children from experiencing long-term, harmful impacts of violence that they had undergone.

Moreover, he ensured that the government and relevant institutions, such as community organizations, will continue to be present in providing assistance to all families in need of help.

"Of course, we hope it will contribute to providing knowledge that quite has an impact on the capacity to make preventive efforts," he affirmed.

Earlier, Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Bintang Puspayoga stated that having a sound understanding of digital literacy could protect women and children from the threats of criminal acts and dangers in social media.

Currently, the ministry is encouraging Indonesian women to utilize digital technology while concurrently enriching them with the required knowledge and skills to protect themselves in cyberspace.

One of the efforts undertaken is setting up the Women and Children's Friendly Smart Home with high-touch and high-technology concepts.

In addition, the latest innovation made by the ministry to boost education on cyberspace is forging cooperation with state-run radio station RRI to expand the dissemination of information regarding empowerment through the integration of the Women and Children's Channel into the RRI Play Go application.

The content of the channel is about the health and development of women and children to improve their physical and psychological well-being.
