"Yes, the Jakarta Provincial Government will add more urban green spaces. We all also plant trees," Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono stated at the Inner Kwitang Market here on Thursday.
Hartono remarked that the provincial administration also conducts vehicle emission testing to control air pollution in the capital city.
"On the other hand, (we also) aim to reduce emissions by testing vehicle emissions (output) and (encouraging the public to) switch to alternative vehicle fuels," he affirmed.
The acting governor also encouraged the city bus service provider TransJakarta to electrify its buses.
Hartono expects the public to help in reducing Jakarta's emissions.
"(Efforts to improve air quality) must be long-term, and the Jakarta Environmental Office always holds the emission test program every year, and everyone must work together to reduce emissions," he emphasized.
The 2023 Grand Emission Test held at the north parking of Ragunan Zoo on Monday (June 5) became the starting point for implementing three important policies in improving Jakarta's air quality.
The emission test activity conducted on Monday also garnered an Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI) record for most number of participants, reaching 2,615, in Indonesia.
Jakarta Provincial Secretary Joko Agus Setyono stated that several efforts have been identified to formulate emission reduction targets as outlined in the Jakarta air pollution control strategy until 2030.
According to Setyono, duo strategies with the highest efficiency in controlling air pollution are emission testing and encouraging the public to switch to public transport.
"This grand emission test is a real effort to control air pollution in Jakarta," Setyono noted on Monday.
The provincial secretary invited private vehicle owners to conduct emission tests and understand the importance of caring for vehicles in order to contribute to clean and healthy air quality for Jakarta City and the future generations.
