The partnership is based on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by the two parties at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health in Jakarta on Thursday.
The MoU covers various forms of support that BMGF will provide to the ministry in order to realize the transformation of the health system in the country through three areas of cooperation.
The three areas of collaboration include implementing Indonesia's transformation agenda, developing health policies with broader impact, and supporting Indonesia's leadership in strengthening the health architecture in ASEAN.
The collaboration between the ministry and the foundation will involve stakeholders and supporting entities, such as research and development institutions, universities, and private parties.
The collaboration will support the work system in five units of the ministry, including the Health Development Policy Agency and the Digital Transformation Office.
Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin emphasized the importance of the primary services transformation pillar in Indonesia's health transformation.
"I believe it will improve the quality of health services and community access to them. In addition, it is also the most cost-effective and best way to improve the quality of public health," he remarked.
Aside from primary services, there are five other pillars in Indonesia's health transformation: referral service transformation, health system resilience transformation, health financing transformation, health human resources transformation, and health technologies transformation.
"These six pillars support each other with the aim of providing people with access to quality health services," Sadikin affirmed.
Christopher Elias, President of Global Development at BMGF, expressed optimism that the partnership will continue to develop and benefit Indonesia's public health sector.
Elias noted that the collaboration reflects the commitment of both parties to providing equitable and quality health services for all Indonesians.
He also expressed enthusiasm for continuing to cooperate with the ministry to accelerate the improvement of health outcomes.
Since 2012, BMGF has provided support to improve Indonesia's health system through various international organizations, local non-governmental organizations (NGOs), as well as universities and research institutions in Indonesia.
The Ministry of Health has been collaborating intensively with BMGF, including through the G20 forum.
