Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fishery is ready to receive inputs from the public concerning Presidential Regulation (PP) No. 26 of 2023 concerning the Management of Marine Sedimentation Products in the Sea.

"Everyone can state their opinions on the currently hot topic issue," the ministry's official, Doni Ismanto, noted in his official statement on Friday.

"However, I expect that it will not be rife with negative thinking first. This is because the government created this policy with the good intention of keeping the sea healthy," he affirmed.

Ismanto urged all parties to comprehensively look at the contents of the regulation and not merely from the standpoint of sand exports.

According to Ismanto, the government regulates the management of marine sedimentation results primarily for ecological interests.

Minister of Marine Affairs and Fishery Sakti Wahyu Trenggono's outlook throughout this time has clearly placed ecology as a priority in developing marine and fishery governance, including the management of marine sedimentation products, he remarked.

Meanwhile, Marine Affairs and Fishery Ministerial Special Staff for Overseas Relation Edy Putra Irawady drew attention to several aspects that drove the government to issue a policy in the management of marine sedimentation.

This starts from the country's obligation to ensure healthy and clean seas to ensure ecological sustainability as well as support national interests in addition to the existence of an international mandate on sea health.

The lack of reclamation standardization throughout this time that results in ecosystem destruction also became a factor.

"I have visited Busan, Korea, several times. They have standardization for reclamation, for what material, what size, because every material that they use has its own standards," he stated.

Earlier, Trenggono confirmed that the extraction of sand derived from sedimentation in the seas will not affect the fishermen's catch.
