"Integrated services like these are an outreach effort that we do to reach a wider range of WNI/PMI in one place outside our Embassy," Irwan Iding, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan, noted through a statement, Sunday (June 11).
Over a hundred WNI/PMI in Kuala Belait City attended the “Pelayanan Kekonsuleran, Keimigrasian, dan Ketenagakerjaan” event held on June 10-11 at a hotel in the city.
The Embassy also provided counseling and dissemination of information in the consular, legal, and employment fields.
The event was opened by Iding and continued by a discussion with the resource person Coordinator of Protocol and Consular Functions, the Labor Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy.
That discussion was also attended by representative of Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) in Brunei and the legal associate of Yusof Halim & Partner, the Embassy's partner in resolving cases faced by PMI.
"This dissemination is crucial for understanding Bruneian laws and procedures, especially for PMI. The aim is that there would not be any more PMI who can get caught up in legal issues in Brunei,” Iding stated.

Such integrated services are regular activities conducted by the Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan.
As a PMI, Rita admitted that the service immensely helped her.
"The Indonesian Embassy ought to carry it out every three months,” Rita said as quoted in the statement.
Kuala Belait City is located some 115 kilometers west of Bandar Seri Begawan.
Some 4,216 WNI/PMI live and work in Kuala Belait and its surroundings as laborers, domestic workers, restaurant servers, workshop mechanics, sailors, and also professionals in the oil and gas sector.
The Overseas Election Committee (PPLN) and the Overseas Election Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu) of Brunei Darussalam also took the opportunity presented through that event to disseminate information on the preparations for the forthcoming presidential and legislative elections to be held on February 14, 2024.
The PPLN implores WNI/PMI to register as election participants. Meanwhile, the Panwaslu has encouraged the Indonesian community to jointly oversee the implementation of the election that is based on the six electoral principles of direct, general, free, confidential, honest, and fair.
