Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and House Speaker Puan Maharani held a meeting at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday to discuss several matters, especially the national political situation.

"It is true that Mr. President met with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani," Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media at the Presidential Secretariat Bey Machmudi confirmed here on Tuesday.

Machmudi explained that during the meeting, the President and the House Speaker discussed various matters, from national politics, and the formulation of laws, to the summit of the Bung Karno Month event in June 2023.

According to him, Widodo and Maharani have met often recently. He reminded that Maharani attended the meeting in her capacity as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

"Mr. President receives Mrs. Maharani routinely in her capacity as the House Speaker to discuss current issues," he said.

Earlier, Maharani uploaded a photo of her meeting with President Widodo on her official Twitter account @puanmaharani_ri.

"Taking the time to take a picture in front of the sculpture of Indonesia's first President Soekarno on the sidelines of a meeting with President Joko Widodo @jokowi today at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta," she tweeted.

She said the meeting with President Widodo discussed various issues, including efforts to increase the synergy of legislative and executive institutions and preparations for the peak of the Bung Karno Month.

"The current national political condition was also discussed," she wrote.

Earlier, Maharani, as the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle's (PDIP's) chair for political affairs, expressed the party's commitment to continuing the leadership, programs, and legacy of Widodo’s administration.

"The continuity of leadership, programs, and legacy from President Jokowi is not only limited to the relocation of the national capital," Maharani said while reading the eleventh point of the external recommendation of the party's third national working meeting.

She added that the party will continue the President's legacy in the downstream industry, development, and infrastructure.
