Inclusive public information and communication services are deemed necessary to provide equal access for everyone, Director of public communication governance and partnership at the directorate general of public information and communication at the ministry Hasyim Gautama noted through a written statement on Friday.
"Communication services, in order to be more friendly and inclusive for partner and people, who have disability, need to (incorporate) many types of disabilities, technology, and aid devices to facilitate communication, and it is also important to use a friendly and inclusive language," he emphasized.
According to Gautama, inclusive communication ensures that everyone can participate without any issues, as outlined in Law Number 8 of 2016 on people with disability.
"Article 24, number 2 stated that people with disability obtain information and communicate through accessible media," he remarked.
Efforts to improve services for the group also align with Government Regulation Number 70 of 2019 on planning, implementation, and evaluation on respect, protection, and fulfillment of rights of people with disabilities, he remarked.
"Communication and Informatics Ministry has the responsibility to formulate policy and operational standards of accessible, reliable, and responsive public communication and information services that can meet the needs of people with disabilities," he stated.
Gautama also underscored the need for the group to gain access to public information services so as to avoid the spread of hoaxes. Such can be achieved by integrating public information services with common applications, so that they can get access to the required information.
"This will (serve as) bridge (between) people and public agencies that have that information," Gautama stated.
Moreover, the integration of public information services can facilitate better policy-making based on data available in the common applications, so as to evaluate the performance of services, he concluded.
