Jakarta (ANTARA) - A three-day holiday from June 28–30 has been proposed for the Eid al-Adha 1444 Hijri celebration to allow people to spend quality time with their families, Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Abdullah Azwar Anas said.

"The ministerial joint decree is in the process of being signed as well as the presidential regulation," Anas informed at the Vice Presidential Palace here on Tuesday.

He said that the three-day holiday was proposed not just because of differences in the determination of the Eid al-Adha date between the government and religious organization Muhammadiyah.

According to him, the government wants to present quality and increase public holidays so that people can spend more time with their families.

"So, not only because there are two dates for Eid al-Adha, but this is the students' holiday season, and the quality time of our civil servants and the Indonesian people is important," he explained.

The long Eid al-Adha holiday this year is expected to support economic growth in the region, he added.

"To encourage the quality of our families and mobilize the economic wheels in the regions, Wednesday and Friday will become collective leave dates and Sunday will remain a national holiday," he said.

However, the decree related to the three-day holiday is still awaiting the presidential regulation, he added.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), he said, is really hoping that the economy in the region can grow and develop during the long Eid al-Adha holiday.

"We will wait for the joint decree to be issued soon; once again, this is just a proposal," he stressed.

Meanwhile, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said that the government will adjust its decision regarding the holiday as there are different dates for Eid al-Adha observance in the country.

"The government will make a collective leave because there are two different days for Eid al-Adha," he added.
