Central Lombok, W Nusa Tenggar (ANTARA) - The ambassadors of Latin American and Caribbean countries have expressed their commitment to exploring promotional and investment cooperation in the Mandalika Special Economic Zone of West Nusa Tenggara, according to the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

"This collaboration is expected to improve the promotion of the respective countries as well as support tourism development in Mandalika," Director of America II at the ministry Darianto Harsono stated during a working visit to the Mandalika International Street Circuit here on Friday.

The ministry organized the "Road to Indonesia - Latin America and the Caribbean (INA-LAC) 2023" event from June 21 to 23, 2023, to promote West Nusa Tenggara's trade, tourism, and investment potential to Latin American and Caribbean countries.

Besides bolstering tourism promotion, he said the collaboration would also explore investment potential with partner countries in Latin America and Caribbean regions for supporting development in Mandalika.

"In general, envoys of Latin American countries are interested in the development in Mandalika," he said.

Meanwhile, Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation's (ITDC's) Director of Business Development Ema Widiastuti said that the visit of envoys from Latin American and Caribbean countries was aimed at exploring promotional and business potentials.

The director informed that they may potentially invest in the development of hotels and restaurants in the region.

"They will also invite tourists from their respective countries to Lombok," she added.

Earlier, West Nusa Tenggara regional secretary Lalu Gita Ariadi said that the agenda is to increase the promotion of economic and tourism potentials as well as MSMEs products in the province.

A discussion on renewable energy with the Regional Research and Innovation Agency (BRIDA) on the first day of INA-LAC highlighted the solar, wind, and biomass energies in the province as promising potentials, Ariadi said.

"West Nusa Tenggara has a great opportunity to cooperate with Uruguay, Argentina, and Brazil in the sector in the future," the regional secretary said.
