Jakarta (ANTARA) - International cooperation needs to be strengthened to realize inclusive and sustainable growth, deputy for international economic cooperation coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Edi Prio Pambudi, said in a statement issued on Friday.

"Amid the fragmentized global trade condition, there should be a comprehensive cooperation strategy strengthening, whether between Indonesia and Australia, or with regions," he said after meeting an economist from the Australian National University, Peter Drysdale.

The key to achieving connectivity between countries in a region is integrity and respect for differences, he added.

The two can encourage the creation of a global economic community that connects citizens, goods trade, and service trade between countries.

The meeting was held to exchange views on the course of global trade in the future and its implications for Indonesia and regional economies.

During the meeting, the deputy also outlined the Indonesian government's role in optimizing opportunities and handling challenges in the global economy.

The government has made several significant contributions to efforts to develop a comprehensive and sustainable course for Indonesia's economy, he informed.

Moreover, the government has continued to strengthen cooperation with international partners for realizing the global prosperity vision.

In response to this, Drysdale stressed that amid the global trade disruption, every country must prioritize promoting continued trade openness to ensure efficiency and improve competitiveness.

This also applies to the ongoing Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) negotiations. Member countries must ensure that IPEF remains open toward the global economy and aligns with the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific, he added.

Drysdale also shared his inputs for Indonesia.

The key in devising effective and efficient policies, which also have a significant effect on the Indonesian economy's advancement at the international stage, is ensuring that they reduce the gap between policy action and strategy, he said.

The effort to reduce the gap can be made through the comprehensive review of a policy, he added.
