"In the future, 10 to 20 years from now, we must have the ambition to host the National Sports Week (PON)," he stated in Pontianak on Sunday.
He expressed his hopes that the construction of the sports complex would facilitate the development of athletes and bring recognition to the province in the national and international arenas.
"This will motivate the community to engage in physical activities, and sports such as badminton, volleyball, and futsal can be hosted here with ample capacity," he said.
The first phase of construction is expected to be completed by July 2024.
In the future, the complex will feature six badminton courts, three volleyball courts, two basketball and futsal courts, one tennis court and a gymnastics hall, as well as five sepak takraw courts.
