Jakarta (ANTARA) - The General Elections Commission (KPU) has concluded the submission period for revisions to the documents of legislative candidates for the 2024 General Elections and accepted revised documents from all 18 participating political parties.

"Praise be to God, until the deadline passes, all 18 parties participating in the 2024 Elections have submitted revised documents of their candidates (that were found incomplete) in the first verification phase," KPU Chief Hasyim Asy'ari stated here on Monday.

Asy'ari noted that the Central KPU Office is authorized to receive and handle the revised documents of prospective candidates of the House of Representatives (DPR RI).

Meanwhile, he remarked that the submission of revised documents of candidates for regional legislatures at the province-, city-, or district-level KPU offices also took place smoothly.

"We have also been informed by our colleagues in KPU offices in 38 provinces and 514 cities and regencies that submission of the revisions to the documents proceeded smoothly according to our plan and before the deadline," the KPU head stated.

"Praise be to God, everything is smooth," he emphasized.

The KPU began the period for revising candidates' documents on June 26 after handing over the verification reports of prospective legislative candidates to the respective parties on June 24.

The electoral commission found that of the total of 10,323 prospective legislative candidates, some 89.7 percent of the administrative documents submitted by candidates did not meet the requirements and needed revisions from their political parties.

Only 10.29 percent of the candidates, or equal to 1,063 individuals, have their documents deemed complete in the first verification phase.

After the revision period ends, the KPU will conduct the verification process for the revised documents from July 10 to August 6, 2023.

"Afterwards, we will announce whether the revised documents meet the requirements or not. When we are ready, we will finalize and announce the preliminary candidates' list," Asy'ari remarked.
