Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, on Saturday, met with her Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, to discuss ways to intensify bilateral partnership between both nations.

"I invite the Turkish private sector to follow suit using Indonesia as an industrial hub for the Asia-Pacific market and sources of industry materials," Marsudi remarked in a joint press statement with Fidan in Jakarta.

Marsudi said she welcomes Turkey for business-to-business (B-to-B) cooperation on joint production and distribution of electric buses, cooperation in natural gas, development of food city complex in Gorontalo and Trans-Sumatra toll-road, and investment in wood processing industries in Sumatra.

At the meeting, the two discussed the follow-up to the bilateral strategic agreement between governments (G-to-G) and private parties (B-to-B) that had been signed in November 2022 in Bali.

The agreement covers the fields of defense, forestry, environment, research and technology, and innovation.

Indonesia and Turkey intensified their relations by establishing the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSC) last year.

The HLSC will become a regular forum for the two countries to discuss bilateral, regional, and international strategic issues that become shared interests.

At the meeting, Marsudi conveyed President Joko Widodo's invitation to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to undertake a bilateral visit to Indonesia.

Minister Fidan, who visited Indonesia for the first time since taking office in June, stated that Indonesia is Turkey's strategic partner, and the two countries have established a long-standing friendship and partnership.

"We value our relations and remain determined to strengthen them in all possible fields," he remarked.

On the occasion, Fidan thanked Indonesia for being one of the first countries that reached out to Turkey after the devastating earthquake in February.

Speaking in connection with HLSC, he said it is a milestone in Indonesia-Turkey relations.

"This mechanism will be a concrete step forward to carry out relations into a new phase," he affirmed.
