"The 1.5-hectare cannabis field was discovered on Monday, July 17, at around 5:30 a.m. local time," Bengkulu Police's Deputy Director of Narcotics Investigation Unit Adjunct Senior Commissioner Tonny Kurniawan remarked.
The cannabis plants, estimated to be four to eight months old and measuring 1.5 meters to four meters, were planted among hundreds of coffee trees, he revealed.
The police also arrested a suspect identified by the initials as Ar, 48, a resident of Kepala Curup Village, Binduriang District.
Kurniawan said, the police conducted the raid after receiving a tip-off from the public on the existence of the cannabis field.
"The police followed up on the report with an investigation, and this morning, we found the location and arrested a suspect," he explained.
The suspect claimed to have only ordered to guard the field and paid Rp100 thousand per night.
The police is looking for other suspects in the case.
