We truly expect that there will be some collaboration in the preparation of human resources to support the blue economy, which will surely benefit (others)Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry is working to improve human resources in the sector using several strategies ranging from formal education to training.
The ministry's Agency for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Research and Human Resources (BRSDM) has been renamed the Agency for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Human Resources Education and Development (BPPSDM KP).
"This transformation marks the commitment of BPPSDM in creating great maritime affairs and fisheries human resources for the blue economy, which is being pursued through many aspects such as education, training, competency development," head of the agency, I Nyoman Radiarta, said in a statement received on Wednesday.
He informed that all the measures in question have been integrated into two strategic programs — Vocational Goes to Actors (VOGA) and Smart Fisheries Village (SFV).
Human resources are key for the successful development of the maritime affairs and fisheries sector.
He referred to data from the 2022 Global Innovation Index, which showed that Indonesia ranked lower than China, even Malaysia, in terms of institution, human capital, research, infrastructure, market sophistication, business sophistication, technology knowledge and output, as well as creative output.
"To create qualified, certified, and professional (human resources), we also highlight collaboration with our partners in the education sector in developing human resources' capacity, research, and community service in maritime affairs and fisheries sector, developing higher education in maritime and fisheries (science), and support for higher education," he elaborated.
The dean of the Fisheries and Marine Science Faculty at Diponegoro University, Tri Winarni Agustini, said she expects the university to take part in efforts to pursue blue economy progress.
"We truly expect that there will be some collaboration in the preparation of human resources to support the blue economy, which will surely benefit (others)," she added.
