Semarang, C Java (ANTARA) - The rector of Sultan Agung Islamic University (Unissula), Professor Gunarto, has expressed optimism that the university in Semarang can achieve its target of having 100 professors by 2027.

"We currently have 48 professors," he told journalists after signing a memorandum of understanding with Professor Habib Alwy bin Hamid bin Syihabuddin of Darul Hadits, a leading educational institution in Yemen, on Wednesday.

He affirmed that Unissula will have more than 100 professors in four years, in accordance with the timeline set by the university's management, if it can get 20 new professors every year.

Gunarto highlighted the importance of a professor's role in improving a university's reputation. Therefore, the Unisulla rectorate is encouraging its teaching staff to obtain a professorship in various fields.

At present, Unissula ranks 45th among Indonesian universities, as ranked by the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities.

"We hope Unissula will be among the top 10 universities in Indonesia by 2027," he said.

Many public and private universities in Indonesia use the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities as a benchmark for their achievements.

According to its official website, the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is an initiative by Spain's Cybermetrics Lab to measure scientific activities on the web.

The Cybermetrics Lab uses quantitative methods to measure scientific activities.

Over the past years, the top 10 positions in Indonesia have tended to be dominated by the country's centers of excellence, such as the University of Indonesia (UI) and Gadjah Mada University (UGM).
