Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia, chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), said on Friday that the country has invited 27 world leaders and international bodies to the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta on September 5–7, 2023.

Director general of ASEAN cooperation at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Sidharto Suryodipuro, however, said that he was not in a position to disclose which world leaders have confirmed their attendance at the summit.

“It is still a process … We will likely receive the official answers in the near future,” he said at a virtual press briefing on Friday.

The 43rd ASEAN Summit will not only bring together the leaders of ASEAN member states, but also its external partners, such as China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and the United States.

Suryodipuro said that the country is also expecting the executive directors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank to join the meeting.

“Canadian Prime Minister (Justin Trudeau) is also expected to come,” he added.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will lead 12 meetings during the three-day-forum, including the 43rd ASEAN Summit, and the summit between ASEAN and its dialogue partners India, Canada, and the United Nations (UN), among others.

He will also lead the 18th East Asia Summit (EAS), which comprises 18 countries, including 10 ASEAN member states and Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, the Russian Federation, and the United States of America.

Suryodipuro said that all the final documents related to the summit are currently still being prepared through intensive discussions and negotiations.
