"Do not just see the 'facade' while investing, but you should understand the numbers and fundamentals," Indrawati emphasized at the "Like It 2023" event here on Monday.
The minister highlighted that investment instruments are available in various forms and options, though she pointed out that not all are safe.
Indrawati advised beginner investors to watch out for unsafe investment that promises quick and high-return results.
Several fraudulent investment offers are emerging amid the developments in technology that offer convenience, she remarked.
According to the minister, investments that appear lucrative usually have a greater possibility of being fraudulent.
The minister also cautioned that there is no guarantee that an investment that looks normal is safe.
"Hence, we have to be more vigilant," Indrawati emphasized.
To this end, the minister reminded investors to develop an understanding of the fundamental aspects of investing.
As an example, Indrawati stated that government securities (SBN) can be an investment option.
She advised potential investors to not immediately buy SBN but rather to first study the condition of the state budget (APBN).
Indrawati remarked that every month, the Finance Ministry delivers a report on state budget development that can be a reference for potential investors looking to invest in SBN.
The minister underlined that SBN investors can make their decisions after understanding the state budget development.
"Just like buying stocks, the prices can go up or down, but at least you know what you are buying," she remarked.
Earlier, Indrawati reported that Indonesia managed to improve financing through debt issuance in July 2023 as compared to the same period in 2022.
The realization of government securities (SBN) issuance as of July had reached Rp184.1 trillion, or 25.8 percent of the state budget target of Rp712.9 trillion.
