It means that in 10 years, the jump could be more than two folds
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) expressed optimism that the natural resources downstreaming policy would increase Indonesia's per capita income by over twofold in the next decade.

"Based on estimation calculations in the next 10 years, our per capita income will reach Rp153 million, or US$10,900," President Jokowi noted in his State of the Nation Address at the Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) at the Parliamentary Complex here on Wednesday.

The head of state remarked that based on calculations, Indonesia's per capita income is projected to reach Rp217 million, or around US$15,800, in 15 years.

Furthermore, in the next 22 years, Indonesia's per capita income is estimated to reach Rp331 million, or approximately US$25,000, if the government is consistent in continuing to apply the natural resources downstreaming policy.

"As a comparison, in 2022, our per capita income was Rp71 million (around US$4,639). It means that in 10 years, the jump could be more than two folds," he pointed out.

On that occasion, the president emphasized that the government had established a foundation to realize the increase in income per capita through the development of infrastructure and connectivity, which will practically boost Indonesia's competitiveness.

Other attendees at the annual session comprised Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, Indonesia's 5th president Megawati Soekarnoputri, Indonesia's 10th and 12th vice president Jusuf Kalla, Indonesia's 6th vice president Try Sutrisno, and Indonesia's 9th vice president Hamzah Haz.

MPR Speaker Bambang Soesatyo, DPR Speaker Puan Maharani, DPD Speaker La Nyalla Mahmud Mattalitti, ministers of the Indonesia Onward Cabinet, leaders of political parties, and state officials also attended the session.
