Jakarta (ANTARA) - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi on Thursday said that several transportation infrastructure projects are being developed rapidly to improve inter-regional connectivity in Indonesia.

"We keep developing modern and high-technology public transportation infrastructure like LRT Jabodebek, MRT, high-speed train, and other modes of transportation," Sumadi added.

He made the remarks while leading the commemoration of the 78th Indonesian Independence Day at his ministry's office in Jakarta.

Sumadi said that the development of the transportation infrastructure will not only increase the nation's competitiveness and put Indonesia on par with developed nations in the world, but also increase the safety, security, and convenience of transportation users.

"This also realizes our goals to connect every part of Indonesia," he added.

On the 78th Independence Day, Sumadi called his ranks, transportation organizers at the central and regional offices, transportation operators, and other stakeholders to continue to increase collaboration in order to encourage the advancement of the Indonesian transportation sector.

"Reliable, efficient, and competitive transportation has a positive impact on people's mobility and economic development. Keep up the good work and collaboration to achieve that goal," the minister said.

In line with the government's theme of "Keep Moving for Advanced Indonesia," the ministry decided on the theme "Going Forward Transportation, Connecting Indonesia" for this year's Independence Day to boost the independence spirit among transportation personnel across Indonesia.
