Labuan Bajo (ANTARA) - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and delegates of the 17th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) enjoyed a welcome parade in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, and East Nusa Tenggara on Sunday afternoon.

The parade was commenced by the Police Academy's Pelopor Cendrawasih Drum Corps, which performed various attractions. General Prabowo and the meeting delegates responded to the attractions with applause.

Furthermore, the attractions were followed by the academy's rifle-equipped cadets marching together to form a military column, demonstrating their high level of cohesion and concentration.

General Prabowo and the delegates then enjoyed a performance of Caci, a local traditional dance.

In addition, communities representing various ethnic groups in Labuan Bajo joined the parade by performing a "development carnival".

After enjoying the welcome parade, the police chief, as the chair of the 17th AMMTC, proceeded to board a traditional Loko Sae Pinisi boat to participate in a sunset cruise activity and enjoy welcome cocktails with several delegates.

The 17th AMMTC is being held from August 20–23, 2023, and is being attended by 10 ministers of ASEAN countries, Timor-Leste as an observer, and delegates from three dialogue partner countries: China, Japan, and South Korea.

ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn and the Chair of ASEAN Directors-General of Immigration Departments and Heads of Consular Affairs Divisions of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (DGICM) also join the dialogue.

The agendas of the 17th AMMTC include the Preparatory Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crime for AMMTC, the AMMTC Plenary, and AMMTC Consultations with Dialogue Partners.

At the end of the plenary session, Indonesia, the 2023 ASEAN chair, will sign a memorandum of understanding with six ASEAN countries—Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam—to strengthen police bilateral cooperation in combating transnational crimes.

The 17th AMMTC will be concluded by the delivery of a joint statement as a summary of the previous meetings as well as the Labuan Bajo Declaration as an agreed-upon joint statement that will be implemented following the meeting.
