Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government is trying to involve all parties in formulating the derivative regulations of the Personal Data Protection Law (PDP Law) so that they can provide optimal benefits, Communication and Information Minister Budi Arie Setiadi said.

"The ratification of the PDP Law in 2022 provided Indonesia with various opportunities, from the opportunity to better protect the fundamental rights of the Indonesian people to facilitating business activities and innovation more wisely," he added.

He delivered the statement while opening the 2023 Personal Data Protection National Forum, which was held in a hybrid online and offline format in Badung, Bali, on Wednesday, according to a press release issued the same day.

Citing 2023 data from the International Association of Privacy Professionals, the minister said that 68 percent of global consumers are worried about the protection of their data.

As many as 85 percent of consumers want transparency in policies on the use of consumer's personal data by service providers.

According to him, this shows that consumers, as the subjects of personal data, are becoming more aware of how important it is to protect privacy and personal data.

He further said that this situation is understandable, considering the high number of data leaks that have occurred and the costs of handling them.

Therefore, the involvement of all stakeholders would make the PDP Law a comprehensive legal basis, encourage ethical and responsible innovation, and boost standards for processing personal data in the public and private sectors, the minister added.

"The formulation (of derivative regulations) that has been carried out since early January is a mandate of the PDP Law. The implementation has so far involved experts and academicians before the draft is prepared for public hearing," he informed.

He said he hoped that, through the 2023 Personal Data Protection National Forum, the government will receive constructive inputs, especially on the formulation of a government regulation draft on the implementation of the PDP law.
