"Reports submitted to Simfoni PPA show that the most cases of violence against women occurred in households, namely 73.1 percent," said Eni Widiyanti, assistant deputy for women's rights at the ministry, during a talk show in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Simfoni PPA is an online information system for the protection of women and children.
Widiyanti said that the reports also show that 56.3 percent of the perpetrators of violence against women are husbands.
The causes of domestic violence experienced by women vary and include the husband's jealousy, drinking habit, or issues related to work.
"Violence of any type and in any form has a significant impact on the health and welfare of women who become victims," she said.
Data from the National Women's Life Experience Survey (SPHPN) 2021 showed that 1 in 4 women aged 15–64 years had experienced violence in their lifetime.

Then, 1 in 9 women, or 11.3 percent, had experienced physical violence. The most common form of violence perpetrated by husbands or partners against women was behavioral restriction (30.9 percent).
Women who become victims of domestic violence show a tendency to commit suicide, Widiyanti informed.
She also said that domestic violence victims can also take up bad habits as an escape, such as drinking and consuming sleeping pills because they have difficulty sleeping or to reduce the stress they are experiencing.
Violence perpetrated by husbands or partners not only affects wives, but also children, she added.
The results of a survey of children aged 6–12, who had witnessed domestic violence, showed that the children experienced nightmares, had a thumb-sucking habit, grew up to be shy, often kept to themselves, or were aggressive.
The children were also presumed to be growing up with learning difficulties and limited social skills, indulging in naughty behaviors, or suffering from severe depression, Widiyanti said.
