Jakarta (ANTARA) - Environment, Climate, Forestry, and New Renewable Energy (LIKE) Festival 202 --held by Ministry of Environment and Forestry-- is not only aimed at saving the environment but also improving farmers' welfare, State Secretary Minister Pratikno stated.

"On one hand, LIKE can solve environmental problems, while at the same time, it also improves the welfare of farmers, livestock breeders, and coastal communities," Pratikno remarked at the Indonesia Arena, Gelora Bung Karno (GBK), Jakarta, Saturday.

He said, the LIKE Festival, held on September 16-18, 2023, will also help Indonesia to prepare to attend the United Nations (UN) Framework Convention on Climate Change or the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP) in Dubai where Indonesia set up a pavilion to show real action taken to deal with climate change.

Pratikno also noted that President Joko Widodo will attend the event directly at the highlight of the festival on Monday (Sept 18) and discuss with environmental activists.

"LIKE is a momentum to encourage companies and industries to play a role in the momentum of a sustainable environment and inclusive growth," he remarked.

He also emphasized the scale of impact of poor environmental management on the future of Indonesia.

"We have really felt the impact of poor environmental management. A few days ago, we felt air pollution in Jakarta, and rural communities also experienced flooding and several droughts, and the world is also facing a food crisis," he pointed out.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the LIKE Festival Committee of the Ministry Agus Justianto explained that the event was held to convey information to the public regarding a summary of President Joko Widodo's corrective steps in the fields of environment, climate, forestry, and New Renewable Energy (NRE).

"At this festival, we can see the results of real work in the environmental sector in the past two years, especially from ministries and institutions and companies that are committed to creating a sustainable business climate," Justianto remarked.

He stated that the LIKE Festival is divided into four zones, i.e., the blue zone for new and renewable energy commitments, the green zone for Indonesia FOLU Net Sink 2030, the yellow zone for environmental restoration innovations, and the purple zone for sustainable natural history societies.

Some of the principles of sustainable environmental management emphasized at this festival include taking sides with the community through efforts to control environmental damage by protecting conservation areas, boosting business productivity, and applying the principles of processing resources for NRE.
