The scholarships were symbolically handed over by Deputy Chief of the National Police Commissioner General Agus Andrianto to the students in a ceremony held at the ULM campus here, Monday.
"This scholarship program is Polri's commitment to improving the quality of Indonesia's human resources through higher education," Andrianto noted.
He also called on other elements of society to provide scholarship funds for several other students, who are eligible for financial support.
Andrianto quoted a report from South Kalimantan Police Chief Inspector General Andi Rian Djajadi, who coordinated with ULM Rector Professor Ahmad Alim Bachri, saying that 700 students still await scholarship funds.
They are eligible for the financial support, as they come from less fortunate families and have good academic achievements, he stated.
ULM Rector Professor Ahmad Alim Bachri expressed gratitude for the Polri scholarships for his students, saying that trusting ULM to be a place for providing the scholarships was a right choice by considering the university's reputation.
Bachri claimed that ULM is "the best and biggest public university in Kalimantan, and it has an equal position with major public universities in Java Island."
Currently, ULM has 11 faculties and one postgraduate program that manage 67 undergraduate programs, 25 master’s programs, and eight doctoral (PhD) programs.
The university has sufficient number of lecturers, including 114 professors, to serve 37 thousand students, Bachri stated.
