Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin will hold a dialogue with human rights activists and athletes during his office camp in Papua from October 9–13, 2023.

Spokesperson for the VP Masduki Baidlowi said here on Friday that the activity is part of the government's efforts to accelerate the development and welfare of Papuans.

"This is very important because the VP has the President's mandate to accelerate the development of Papua's welfare," he added.

The Vice President will set up base in Jayapura for a while and work out of the Ministry of Finance's branch office there, he said.

VP Amin's working visit will begin with a coordination meeting with acting governors and district heads in Papua, where they will talk about and evaluate the achievements made in national programs.

Amin said he wants to directly listen to the aspirations of human rights activists in Jayapura.

"He wants to listen to them directly, not from the news, other people, or routine reports. He wants to discuss with what will be reported by the activists later," he added.

Furthermore, the VP will hold a dialogue with athletes, considering Papua's extraordinary talents in sports, Baidlowi said.

Through the meeting, he informed, Amin will try to fulfill his responsibilities under the Grand Design of National Sports (DBON).

"Each region has advantages that other regions do not have, and Papua has extraordinary talents in the field of sports," he said.

The dialogue with the athletes will be held informally in order to hear their aspirations directly, he added.

In addition, Amin is scheduled to hold a meeting with local entrepreneurs to discuss forms of business collaboration with experts outside Papua.

"Papuans have a lot of entrepreneurs. (Entrepreneurial) programs that run in Papua may be initiated by many experts outside Papua," he said.
