Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno called on all government officials, including at his ministry, to uphold the spirit of anti-corruption as a culture.

"I demand that the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) upholds the spirit of anti-corruption as a culture. We should be the role models in this matter," he remarked in Central Jakarta on Thursday.

Minister Uno made the statement in his speech during an event titled "Townhall Meeting of the Strengthening of the Anti-corruption Spirit within Kemenparekraf".

He then noted that Indonesia recorded a score of 34 points in the 2022 Corruption Perception Index (IPK), placing the country in the 110th position among 180 countries. The score is a decline of four points as compared to the previous year and the lowest since 2015, he added.

The minister observed that the practice of office politics had posed a hindrance to Indonesia in its efforts to eradicate corruption since such a practice deters someone from reporting a corrupt act committed by a figure that wields connections with influential persons in the work environment.

"Office politics is one of the biggest obstacles that hinder innovation. There is research about this," he affirmed.

Uno noted that Indonesia's relatively low IPK score should drive all parties to work together to further strengthen the spirit of anti-corruption.

"This is an alarm for all of us. However, we should not use it (the score) to blame each other. Instead, it is supposed to encourage us to strengthen the spirit of anti-corruption," he elaborated.

He further remarked that Indonesian young people from the Generation Z can play an important role as agents of change with the capacity to realize corruption-free institutions.

"They can play a role as agents of change, improvement, development, and solution," he opined.
