"The number of spectators for the MotoGP Mandalika series this weekend reached 102,929 people," Head of the NTB Tourism Service, Jamaluddin Malady, noted in Mataram, Monday.
According to Malady, the number was higher as compared to the MotoGP Mandalika spectators in 2022 reaching 102,801 people.
Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno also noted that the number of spectators at the MotoGP Mandalika this year exceeded the target of 100 thousand spectators.
Earlier, state-owned airport operator, PT Angkasa Pura I (AP I) in Lombok Airport reported that it had served at least 31 thousand passengers during the Mandalika MotoGP period on October 11-14, with an increase of 20 percent in the number of passengers as compared to the figure in the previous week.
"In detail, there were 18,700 passengers arriving and 12,500 passengers departing from Lombok Airport during the October 11-14 period," General Manager of AP I Lombok Airport Rahmat Adil Indrawan remarked.
On average, during that period, the number of passengers was recorded at 7,800 people per day, or an increase of 20 percent as compared to the daily average of around 6,500 passengers per day, Indrawan stated.
During the same period, Lombok Airport also served 333 aircraft movements, with 169 arriving aircraft movements and 164 departing aircraft movements, or an average of 83 aircraft movements per day, he noted.
"Aircraft movements also increased by 20 percent as compared to previous days, with an average of 69 aircraft movements per day. The MotoGP Mandalika series had a significant impact on flight activities at Lombok Airport," he remarked.
According to Indrawan, the peak in spectators' arrival during the race occurred on Friday, October 13, with 5,300 passengers arriving at Lombok Airport.
"Meanwhile, the peak of the departure is predicted to occur on Monday," he noted.
He remarked that 80 additional flights were requested by national and international airlines on October 10-17 comprising 42 flights from Garuda Indonesia, 22 flights from Citilink, six flights from Indonesia AirAsia, four flights from Super Air Jet, and respectively two flights from Wings Air, Lion Air, and Malaysia Airlines.
"Hopefully, the 2023 MotoGP Mandalika series is able to bring a positive impact on the economy and tourism in Lombok and NTB," he revealed.
