The school, named the Nusantara Intercultural School, is developed by the Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS), which is a private international school network from Jakarta.
"This afternoon, I officially declare that the groundbreaking of the Nusantara Intercultural School NIS has begun," he remarked while inaugurating the groundbreaking of the international school project in the new capital area, East Kalimantan, as monitored in a video on Wednesday.
According to Jokowi, the question most commonly posed by prospective residents of Nusantara is regarding the school for their children.
He noted that prospective residents are willing and ready to move to the new capital, but they question the quality of the schools there.
As development of the international school has begun, President Jokowi urged civil servants and prospective residents, who will reside in Nusantara City, to not be hesitant to move to the new capital.
“‘Sir, I will move, but where will my children go to school? How about the quality of the school?’ Today, we got the answer. The school is available, namely Nusantara Intercultural School, which will be developed by JIS from Jakarta,” he remarked.
On that occasion, the president also lauded JIS that will develop the first international school in Nusantara.
He also assessed that the presence of JIS in the new capital signified the government's seriousness and commitment to provide supporting facilities in Nusantara, including presenting international standard educational institutions.
The president also expressed hope that JIS would provide world-class education in Nusantara, promote high-class global education there, and provide quality educational options for the new capital's residents who come from various regions, countries, and backgrounds.
