Odo Manuhutu, the coordinating ministry's Deputy for Tourism and Creative Economy Coordination, noted that the establishment of the training center would serve as a foundation for training and honing the H20 racing potentials of youngsters in the vicinity of Lake Toba.
"We hope that in the future, the people around Toba will actively participate in various international-level events taking place on Lake Toba rather than merely attending the events as spectators," Manuhutu said during the 2023 Aquabike Jetski World Championship on Toba Lake, on Saturday (November 25).
According to him, the idea to build the racing school emerged after the holding of a number of international championships on Lake Toba, such as the 2023 Aquabike Jetski World Championship and the F1 PowerBoat World Championship.
The government is seeking to build the training center to support efforts to develop Indonesia's young talents, he said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chairperson of IMI Ananda Mikola affirmed that his side is ready to collaborate with the government to establish the racing school.
To this end, he said IMI would coordinate with other relevant stakeholders.
The establishment of the Aquabike H20 Racing Training Center, he said, will help young talents in North Sumatra, particularly those residing near Lake Toba, hone their skills.
"Lake Toba wields enormous potential," he noted.
Mikola then expressed belief that the training center would help Indonesia produce the finest talents that would promote its name at international racing championships.
He also revealed the plan to organize a racing event that will involve school students on Lake Toba in March of 2024.
"We will later discuss the details. The event will draw participation from contenders, aged around 15," he informed.
