I would like to congratulate you for the holding of the COP28. Indonesia is ready to provide support for breakthroughs initiated by the UAE to deal with climate change
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo held a meeting with President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Dubai, on Friday, to discuss workable measures for intensifying bilateral cooperation.

In his opening remarks, Jokowi, as the president is widely known, extended his appreciation to Al Nahyan for UAE's role as the host of the Conference of the Parties 28 (COP28) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

"I would like to congratulate you for the holding of the COP28. Indonesia is ready to provide support for breakthroughs initiated by the UAE to deal with climate change, especially in relations with developing countries," he said as quoted from a statement released by his secretariat in Jakarta.

At the meeting, the two leaders discussed efforts to further enhance bilateral cooperation between the countries in various sectors, including oil and gas, which constituted Indonesia's largest imported commodities from the UAE.

"Indonesia expects the UAE to give even more competitive oil prices for Indonesia," Jokowi told Al Nahyan.

The two leaders also made the most of the meeting to discuss about strategic investment collaboration between their countries.

In this context, President Jokowi commended the UAE for its participation in the development of the Cirata Floating Solar Power Plant in West Java Province.

He then expressed hope that the gulf state would continue to help Indonesia to complete the development of various strategic projects.

Furthermore, Jokowi and Al Nahyan drew attention to cooperation in the field of meteorology and geophysics. The former said Indonesia hopes that the UAE would lend a hand to augment the early warning system technology to enhance the country's capacity in anticipating tsunami and earthquakes.

"I also warmly welcome the signing of an MoU (memorandum of understanding) between BMKG (Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency) and the National Center of Meteorology of the UAE," Jokowi stated.

Speaking on the cooperation in the manpower sector, Jokowi conveyed his commitment to dispatching professional, well-educated, and well-trained workers to the UAE.

Hence, he pushed the UAE government to guarantee the protection of Indonesia's migrant workers.

"Indonesia is expanding access to its migrant workers, particularly in the financial, renewable energy, and defense industry sectors," Jokowi remarked.
