Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) won an award for its artificial intelligence (AI) platform AeroBuddy at the Asia-Pacific ICT Alliance Awards (APICTA) held at Cyberport, Hong Kong, from December 5–8, 2023.

It won the award in the Industrial-Engineering & Construction/Transport category. Besides Indonesia, nominations in the category came from several countries such as China, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, and Thailand.

In a statement released in Jakarta on Saturday, vice president of corporate communication at AP II, Cin Asmoro, said that the award is a mark of progress in the digital transformation that AP II has been carrying out since 2016.

"The digital transformation at AP II has been running for around seven years and has produced many products from this transformation, which have been applied in service and operational aspects," he said.

This year, AP II introduced the AeroBuddy AI platform for airport operational efficiency, flights, and services to all airplane passengers,

"AeroBuddy is the first AI platform at a national airport. We are grateful that AeroBuddy received international recognition by becoming the winner at APICTA 2023. This is an encouragement for AP II to continuously introduce new innovations to serve the community," said Asmoro.

He affirmed that AeroBuddy is being continuously improved and will be fully implemented later at Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Soetta).

Soetta Airport is the largest and busiest airport in Indonesia. The management of the airport using ordinary methods is no longer feasible, but needs to be strengthened with the help of advanced technology-based infrastructure to maintain and improve operational services and standards.

"The presence of AeroBuddy helps increase the competitiveness of Soekarno-Hatta Airport at the regional level," he said.

AeroBuddy comes in a text conversation format, similar to ChatGPT's AI platform, but it has better knowledge regarding airports.

"AP II personnel can discuss with AeroBuddy in carrying out their work. Armed with big data at the airport, AeroBuddy can help personnel by carrying out advanced analysis or advanced data analytics to provide various insights related to operations, flights, services, and commerce," Asmoro explained.

AeroBuddy has an AP II big data knowledge base and can carry out advanced data analytics to provide inputs to AP II personnel in a matter of seconds.

AeroBuddy's knowledge base comprises hundreds of millions of data records contained in around 80 applications at Soetta Airport.

"Through AeroBuddy, for example, we can quickly find out flight traffic analysis, desires, needs, and habits of customers or airplane passengers, and then we can use this data for improving and increasing operational and service standards," said Asmoro.

In the next stage, AeroBuddy will be integrated with AP II's Travelin application and become people's personal assistant when they want to travel to and from AP II airports.

"When it is integrated with Travelin, prospective airplane passengers can find out various things, for example, what time they have to leave home so they can be on time according to their flight schedule," Asmoro informed.
