Jakarta (ANTARA) - The General Elections Commission (KPU) will provide three minutes to presidential candidates to refute each other's arguments during the first debate, which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday (December 12, 2023).

At a press conference here on Monday, KPU chairperson Hasyim Asy'ari said that in the first debate, there will be sessions during which the presidential candidates will refute each other's arguments.

The total duration of the debate, which will have six segments with advertisement breaks, will be 150 minutes.

In each segment, three randomly drawn questions will be asked to the candidates, and each of them will get two minutes to answer them.

After one candidate gives his answer, the remaining two will be given one minute each to refute him. The candidate who answered the question will also be given one minute to refute.

Thus, the total time allotted for refutation will be three minutes per question, Asy'ari informed.

The KPU has scheduled five presidential and vice presidential debates in Jakarta during the campaign period from November 28, 2023, to February 10, 2024.

The first and second debates will be held on December 12 and December 22, 2023, and the third and fourth will be held on January 7 and January 21, 2024, respectively.

The final debate will take place on February 4, 2024.

There will be three presidential debates and two vice presidential debates, and all the candidates will need to attend the five debates.

The first debate will cover government, law, human rights, corruption eradication, efforts to strengthen democracy, public service improvement, and public harmony.

The theme of the second debate will focus on the economy, digital economy, finance, investment, taxes, trade, state budget, infrastructure, and urban development, and the third debate will put a spotlight on geopolitics, defense, and international relations.

The fourth debate will be about the environment, sustainable development, and indigenous peoples, and the last one will cover social welfare, education, and human resources.
