"Transportation of basic food will only be limited on certain days. We also limit the number of trucks per day during the peak of homecoming and return flow to reduce congestion," he stated at the opening of the 2023 Christmas and 2024 New Year Transportation Center Posts in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The Joint Decree (SKB) of the Ministry of Transportation, PUPR Ministry, National Police, and National Police's Traffic Corps (Korlantas) allows vehicles transporting basic necessities, fuel, money, animals and animal feeds, and fertilizers to operate during the holidays.
The decree also limits other vehicles to travel on December 22-24, December 26-27, December 29-30, and January 1-2 starting from 08:00 local time.
The restriction will also be implemented on non-toll roads on similar dates.
"Therefore, transportation entrepreneurs are asked to adhere to this regulation and manage their operations before that period," the minister emphasized.
He remarked that the regulations made during the holidays aim to ensure the continuity of transportation services by preparing backup transport facilities to serve the increasing needs of the community.
"We prepare for backup transport for air and train transportation. We also ask transportation regulators to coordinate with operators to ensure availability of backups," he noted.
In addition, the ministry will provide information regarding congestion points, contraflow, and the establishment of Christmas and New Year posts at various locations.
“We have to provide information through outreach. With such coordination, we are expecting smooth implementation. Each post must have competent personnel as well," he remarked.
For this holiday period, the Transportation Ministry projects 107 million people to travel for holiday or homecoming.
