Maharani urged state-run railway company PT KAI, along with other relevant teams, to find the cause of the incident at the earliest.
"That way, there will be evaluation and improvement of the security system of public transportation. (This is important) not only for trains but also for all other modes of public transportation, including (means of) land (transportation), which are prone to accidents," she noted in a DPR statement received here on Saturday.
She also called on the Ministry of Transportation to continue to conduct monitoring and ensure security of the management system of all transportation modes.
She assessed that those measures are essential to prevent a similar incident from recurring in the future and to provide a sense of safety to people.
"Ensure all the protocols are carried out in accordance with the standards to minimize human error that can harm the public as users of transportation services. The government must guarantee the safety of citizens who are traveling," she affirmed.
The house speaker emphasized that PT KAI should give the best services to all the victims of the train collision by facilitating and fulfilling their needs.
Friday's collision involved the Turangga Train, a long-distance train on the Bandung-Surabaya route, and Bandung Raya Train, a local commuter line train operating on the Padalarang-Cicalengka route.
The two trains collided at around 6 a.m. local time on Friday between the Haurpugur and Cicalengka stations in Cicalengka Sub-district, Bandung District.
Four people — a train driver, a driver's assistant, a train attendant, and a security officer — lost their lives in the accident.
