The rule allows them to have a leave during the campaign. However, their performance should be good.
Malang, East Java (ANTARA) - The government is evaluating the leave policy for ministers for election campaigning in relation to the performance of the Onward Indonesia Cabinet, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin informed on Friday.

At a press conference in Malang, East Java, he said that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has issued Government Regulation (PP) Number 53 of 2023 to regulate the leaves of ministers and regional heads during the 2024 election campaign period.

"The rule allows them to have a leave during the campaign. However, their performance should be good. The result of this rule will be evaluated," he remarked.

According to him, the evaluation is important to ensure ministers' performance amid the pressures of the current political year.

"Is there an influence because many ministers become presidential and vice presidential candidates or become a success team? I have not received any reports," he added.

Regarding speculations on the resignation of several ministers from the cabinet, the Vice President said that they were not true.

"As far as I know, there are no internal issues in the cabinet," he stated.

He further said that all ministers in the cabinet are continuing to work and showing good performance at a number of work meetings.

However, Amin added that he had found some performance declines in the evaluation. Therefore, the government will revise the ministerial leave regulation in the political year.

During a discussion in Jakarta some time ago, senior economist Faisal Basri had said that Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati was a minister who was morally the most ready to resign from the cabinet.

However, after Friday's meeting with the President, she debunked the rumor.

"This is me working. I work," the minister answered briefly after the meeting.

Earlier, the coordinator for Presidential Special Staff Ari Dwipayana said that all ministers in the Onward Indonesia Cabinet remain committed to assisting President Widodo in running the government until the end of his term in office.

"All ministers in the cabinet remain united and solid in helping the President to lead the administration of the government until the end of his term of office," Dwipayana confirmed via a text message on Thursday.
