Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - The National Police (Polri) has deployed 111 officers in six countries to secure overseas polling stations (TPSLN) for the upcoming general elections.

"We have deployed 111 TPSLN personnel to 12 regions in six countries based on the threat priority scale," said Police Commissioner General Fadil Imran, head of Polri's Security Maintenance Agency in South Tangerang, Banten, on Monday.

He said that most of the officers will be placed in Malaysia, which has the most overseas polling stations compared to other countries.

In Malaysia, the officers will be placed in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Tawau, Penang, Kinabalu, and Kuching.

They will also be stationed at The Hague in the Netherlands, Sydney in Australia, Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Hong Kong in China, and Taiwan, among others, Imran said.

He said that the personnel will be placed at each overseas polling station depending on the region's characteristics and the number of voters.

"Their job is to oversee the security of the voting process properly, then coordinate with PPLN (Overseas Voting Committee) officers and the Indonesian embassy in the destination country," Imran added.

Indonesia is setting up overseas voting posts at embassies, consulate generals, and other locations.

"Based on the data, there are 2.3 million permanent voters abroad. We hope this figure is accurate for better security," he said.

The on-duty police personnel will not wear their uniforms.

"Our police personnel will wear normal civilian clothes with vests, not police uniforms," he stated.

The General Elections Commission (KPU) has laid down the dates for international voting from February 5 to 14.
