Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI) declared several new sectors for the placement of Indonesian migrant workers (PMIs) in South Korea through the Employment Permit System-Test of Proficiency in Korean (EPS TOPIK) examination scheme.

Head of BP2MI, Benny Rhamdani, stated that the sectors in the 2024 EPS TOPIK Exam Registration, which was originally only in manufacturing and fisheries, were increased to shipbuilding, Service 1 for waste processing, and Service 2 for work in hotels and restaurants.

"The expansion of these sectors cannot be separated from the lobbying and discussions that we continue to hold with the Korean HRDK (Human Resources Development Service) even though the result has not been optimally fulfilled regarding what we have asked from the Korean side," Rhamdani noted in a press conference on Tuesday.

The BP2MI head said that his side was seeking the addition of other sectors for the placement of PMIs under the inter-governmental cooperation scheme, or G-to-G, including in the agricultural and logistics sectors.

"Hopefully, we can fight for another opening in other sectors as the expansion of job opportunities in South Korea for our people," he remarked.

Registration for the 2024 EPS TOPIK exam was conducted on February 15-20. The total number of registrants for placement in South Korea through this scheme reached 62,930 people from various regions of Indonesia.

The next process of fingerprint recording continues to be carried out offline at BP3MI and P4MI (Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Service Post) according to the area of origin or nearest location selected by the applicant on February 26-March 10, 2024.

Meanwhile, the document verification process will be conducted online by officers at BP3MI and P4MI on the same date.
