Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Nusantara Capital City Authority (OIKN) held the Friday English Fun (FEF) Program in several surrounding elementary schools in pursuit of increasing the students' interest in learning English.

"Friday English Fun is carried out regularly for elementary students in the Nusantara area in Sepaku Sub-district, Penajam Paser Utara District, East Kalimantan," OIKN's Director of Basic Services, Suwito, remarked here on Tuesday.

Suwito noted that the FEF is scheduled every Friday with all elementary school students in the surrounding areas participating.

The educational program was initiated by the Deputy for Socio-Cultural Affairs and Community Empowerment under the OIKN's Directorate of Basic Services.

Suwito stated that FEF aims to cultivate Indonesian students' English skills. On Friday (March 8), the FEF was held at three state elementary schools (SDN) in Sepaku, namely SDN 005 in Sukaraja Village, SDN 014 Pemaluan Village, and SDN 020 Bumi Harapan Village.

"We will continue the next FEF to other schools in the Nusantara area," Suwito affirmed.

He remarked that various activities in FEF carried out by his side in collaboration with the schools comprised counting in English exercises and recognizing the names of body parts in English.

"Then sing in English, English market day, simple quizzes, and others," he remarked.

According to Suwito, all students participating in the event gave a good response. It is hoped that in future, it will have a positive impact on students, and they will become accustomed to using English in daily activities.

Suwito remarked that one of the program's objectives is to prepare Nusantara students for Olympiad competitions.

The FEF also facilitates learning English in a fun way, wherein students can practice in the school environment and their homes.
