...the return flow is (predicted to peak) on April 14–15, 2024.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, has said that the Eid al-Fitr homecoming exodus is predicted to peak in the period from April 5–7, 2024.

"The peak of Eid exodus is predicted to occur on April 5–7, 2024, and the return flow is (predicted to peak) on April 14–15, 2024," he said after attending a ministerial meeting on Eid al-Fitr transportation in Jakarta on Monday.

Effendy said that the prediction is based on a survey carried out by the Ministry of Transportation, which projected that the number of people participating in the 2024 Eid al-Fitr homecoming exodus will reach 193.6 million.

The figure, he observed, reflects an increase of more than 60 percent compared to 2023, when the number of people who participated in the exodus stood at 123.8 million.

"It is far bigger than 2023, namely 123.8 million people. There is an increase of more than 60 percent," he noted.

The minister highlighted that to support the mobility of travelers, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing has readied six new toll roads, including Section 2B Cikeas-Cibitung of Cimanggis-Cibitung Toll Road (19.65 kilometers) and Bangkinang-Koto Kampar Toll Road (24.7 kilometers).

"It is expected that all can be used functionally. However, please be careful of the presence of risks, especially weather," he said.

As for sea transport, he informed that the government has readied three main ports, namely Bandar Bakau Jaya Port in Serang district, Ciwandan Port in Cilegon city, and Merak Port in Cilegon city.

He said that all facilities have been equipped with health posts, with 112 posts set up in the Java area and 24 posts in the Sumatra toll route areas.

Earlier, ANTARA reported that the Transportation Ministry — based on a survey of 48,107 respondents in 38 provinces, with a 0.46 percent margin of error — projected that 193.6 million people, or 71.7 percent of the Indonesian population, will undertake Eid homecoming trips.
