Jakarta (ANTARA) - State apparatus serving at central government institutions, including ministries and agencies, should not refuse to be relocated to the new capital city (IKN) Nusantara, the National Civil Service Agency (BKN) affirmed.

BKN Acting Head Haryowo Dwi Putranto noted that civil servants are not supposed to refuse the relocation since they have already vowed to willingly be stationed in any region of Indonesia.

"It is impossible for us to force someone to relocate. However, they should not choose to refuse the relocation," he remarked during a press conference at the office of the Communication and Informatics Ministry, Jakarta, on Tuesday.

In principle, he said, the transfer of central government institutions to IKN Nusantara entails the relocation of their offices and institutional structure, meaning their officials should work from the new offices.

"We stick to the principle of the transfer involving the relocation of human resources, institutional structure, and offices. Those aspects are essentially one," he pointed out.

Putranto then underlined that the transfer of civil servants to Nusantara would be carried out in stages and be in accordance with the number of officials needed in Indonesia's future seat of government.

Earlier, Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) Bambang Susantono emphasized that the government had continued to make significant progress in the development of IKN, noting that the first stage of development had reached 71.47 percent completion.

He remarked that Phase I of the capital city development had used investment worth Rp47.5 trillion (around US$3 billion).

In detail, the first stage of development involves the construction of Sepaku Semoi Dam, National Axis Phase I, the Presidential Palace, and a field for state ceremonies.
