Director of school principals, school supervisors, and education personnel at the ministry, Kasiman, said that catalyst teachers, during their education, are provided material on student-centered and differentiated learning, which is adapted to the transformation of the Independent Curriculum (Kurikulum Merdeka).
"Catalyst teachers are trained to be learning leaders. Everything has been connected to the curriculum then the teacher is transforming," Kasiman said during a working visit to Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan, on Wednesday.
A catalyst teacher is a learning leader who encourages student growth and development holistically, actively, and proactively, in training other educators to implement student-centered learning.
To become catalyst teachers, he said, candidates who meet certain criteria go through several selection stages and if they pass, they undergo catalyst teacher education for six months.
Kasiman explained that as part of their education, prospective catalyst teachers go through about 10 modules, which include student-centered learning, differentiated learning, learning leadership, and asset-based thinking learning.

Through the modules, he explained, prospective catalyst teachers are taught not to complain about existing conditions, facilities, or infrastructure, but instead utilize existing facilities and infrastructure at schools.
Catalyst teachers are considered capable of mapping existing competencies in schools, and then optimizing them for educational progress and the development of the quality of students.
"For example, what skills does the teacher have, what skills does the teacher's wife or husband have, what skills do the parents of the students have," Kasiman said.
"For example, there are those who are tailors, good at cooking, good at English. These assets can be used to develop the school," he added.
According to him, the education of catalyst teachers is designed to prepare them as learning leaders at educational units in Indonesia so that they can exercise influence and share their knowledge with other teachers through real action.
"This catalyst teacher not only learns, but has practiced real action in his school and this is directly transmitted to our students, to teachers in one school and local teachers in their respective areas," he said.
