Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's President-elect Prabowo Subianto expressed the public's expectations that the nation's political elites and leaders would get along well after the 2024 General Election concluded.

After meeting Chairman of the National Democratic Party (NasDem) Surya Paloh at the NasDem Tower, here on Friday, Subianto said he was keen that his meeting with Paloh would hold meaning that Indonesia has developed into a nation with a mature democratic system.

In the 2024 election, Paloh supported one of Prabowo's rivals, Anies Baswedan.

"I believe that the cooperation among leaders is very important, and this is what our people demand," he stated during a press conference, accompanied by Paloh.

Prabowo, who is concurrently Chairman of the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party, stated that geopolitical analysis conducted by several institutions predicted Indonesia to become a strong and prosperous nation.

However, the condition for Indonesia to be a great nation is that its leaders must cooperate with one another, he emphasized.

"The competition is good and necessary. The people need choices. However, after the competition, it is time for us to work together, shoulder to shoulder, to build our nation. I think this is important," he remarked.

Hence, to this end, Prabowo thanked the NasDem Party and commended Paloh who congratulated him and Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

Prabowo called to maintain Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, or Unity in Diversity.

"We can be proud that our democracy is running, but it is still not perfect, but, that is our job. Let us build the future better," he affirmed.

On Wednesday (March 20), the General Elections Commission (KPU) officially declared Prabowo Subianto and his running mate, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as the next president and vice president of the country.

Prabowo-Gibran won 96,214,691 votes (58.59 percent), while their rivals Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar garnered 40,971,906 votes (24.95 percent), and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD secured 27,040,878 votes (16.46 percent).

Shortly after the KPU announcement, NasDem Party chairperson Surya Paloh told a press conference in Jakarta that he accepted the official election results of both the parliamentary and presidential elections.

NasDem's official stance on the election results aside, Jakarta witnessed a wave of protests from supporters of the Anies-Muhaimin and Ganjar-Mahfud camps over alleged electoral fraud.

On Thursday, the Anies-Muhaimin camp's national team of lawyers filed an election result dispute at Indonesia's Constitutional Court (MK), alleging structured, systematic, and massive electoral fraud in the 2024 General Elections.

Anies Baswedan highlighted the importance of filing the election result dispute at the Constitutional Court, saying that election processes are as indispensable as the results as they are closely related to election legitimacy.
