"This food assistance is the result of cooperation with strategic partners such as state-owned companies and other partners who are concerned about the flood disaster in Demak, especially in Karanganyar Sub-district," Head of Bapanas Arief Prasetyo Adi said during the food aid handover here on Sunday.
He provided the Demak flood victims with rice, fresh food, and processed food worth Rp581.02 million, or around US$32,700.
The aid handover event was held at the evacuation camp at SDN 3 Ngaluran Karanganyar, Demak District, on Sunday.
He hoped that the assistance, which included 35.5 tons of rice, canned food, and other foodstuffs, could ease the burden on residents affected by the flood.
Moreover, he said, Demak District is one of the largest rice-producing areas, and it should be one of the national food sources during the harvest period in March and April 2024.
In detail, the Rp581.02 million worth of assistance was contributed by many strategic partners and the state logistics agency Perum Bulog.
Some Rp423.6 million of the budget was spent on 35.5 tons of rice and Rp35 million on other food stuffs.
Moreover, it included fresh food worth Rp50 million and processed food worth Rp72.42 million.
Some partners were also willing to donate money, for a total of Rp200 million.
Demak District Head Eisti’anah said she is grateful for the government's support, including for Bapanas, who have provided food assistance.
"Hopefully, this assistance can be useful and ease the burden on residents affected by the flood," she said.
