The paramedics involved in the community service belong to the Indonesia-PNG Border Security Task Force of the 726/TML Infantry Battalion, according to the army’s press statement that ANTARA received here, Monday.
In addition to less access to healthcare facilities, the villagers also remain vulnerable to several diseases owing to uncertain weather conditions in the Dalir neighborhood area, according to the army's statement.
The army paramedics found that most villagers of Dalir were healthy and to help them in staying healthy, the paramedics also provided them with vitamins to increase immunity and endurance.
For the residents falling seriously ill, the paramedics suggested that they get medical treatment at a hospital in Merauke City, the army's press statement revealed.
ANTARA reported earlier that Indonesian soldiers stationed in Papua have demonstrated exemplary capability in maintaining peace and stability in the region for decades in their endeavors to safeguard the country's territorial integrity.
The soldiers are chiefly tasked with securing peace and stability in the country's easternmost region.
However, they are also living and mingling with members of local communities, which has provided them a glimpse of the challenges faced by native Papuans in their day-to-day lives.
For instance, Indonesian soldiers from the 125/SMB Infantry Battalion Task Force had recently also provided free healthcare services to native Papuans in Kiworo Village, Kimaam Sub-district, Merauke District.
Located on Yos Sudarso Island, some 129 kilometers away from Merauke, Kimaam Sub-district can only be reached by airplane or ship.
