"For those who want to know regions that are safe from disasters or the level of disaster risks in regions, they can download InaRISK," the deputy for prevention at BNPB, Prasinta Dewi, said at a press conference on hydrometeorological disaster preparedness, which was followed online from here on Tuesday.
The app, which can be downloaded from PlayStore and App Store, contains information on disaster risk, capacity, and vulnerability related to population, physical infrastructure, the economy, and the environment.
The application also has disaster risk index monitoring to help users understand it directly and immediately decide on appropriate mitigation measures.
By installing InaRISK on smartphones, she said, people can monitor weather conditions from the official channel of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), learn about the nearest evacuation routes, river water discharge, the potential for water overflow, and the risk of landslide.
"In tourism areas, in river tourism, for instance, we must pay attention to the notifications on river water discharge and the potential for water overflow and flooding, as well as information on landslides on river banks," she explained.
At beach tourism areas, InaRISK users can monitor the movement of sea waves and whirlpool currents, especially in southern Java, as well as get information about coastal floods.
Meanwhile, people visiting mountains and hill tourism areas must understand the risk of landslides, cold lava flow, and soil movement, she added.
According to a survey carried out by the Ministry of Transportation, 193.6 million people are projected to participate in the homecoming exodus during this year's Eid al-Fitr, which is predicted to fall on April 10.
