Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) held focus group discussions (FGD) with indigenous community figures, cultural actors, and cultural experts in East Kalimantan as part of preparations for drafting the 'Master Plan for Cultural Advancement.'

The discussions, which were held on April 3 and 4, 2024, in Balikpapan, aimed to gather inputs and perspectives that will serve as a foundation for devising the cultural advancement master plan for Nusantara, OIKN's director of culture, tourism, and creative economy, Muhsin Palinrungi, said in an OIKN press release here on Friday.

The discussions were also held to enrich the content and policy direction for cultural advancement in the country's new capital, he added.

"Through the FGD, the master plan drafting can later be used as our guideline to develop cultural programs as well as prepare strategies in Nusantara," he said.

He emphasized the importance of mutual understanding of Law Number 5 of 2017 concerning the Advancement of Culture, which recognizes and respects the existence of more than 700 cultures in Indonesia.

He said that the law reflects the richness and diversity of the nation's culture, which needs to be actively promoted and preserved by all parties.

Although not all parties could be invited for the discussions this time, the participants who represented various tribes in East Kalimantan were considered very important.

Through the FGD series, OIKN can prepare an inclusive master plan that reflects Nusantara's cultural wealth and encourages the sustainable advancement of culture in the area.

On the same occasion, Sastri Sunastri, representing the archaeology, language, and literature sector, said that her side carried out research focused on the cultural identity and civilization of Nusantara.

She informed that the research revealed stories about cultural preservation efforts in Sepaku sub-district, including traditions and legends.
